This Calculator Disclaimers document (“Disclaimer”) governs your use of the estimation tools provided by Bourbon Bigfoot (“the Company”) on our website, https://www.bourbonbigfoot.com. By using any calculator, you acknowledge and agree to the terms set forth below.

Log Weight Calculator

Disclaimer: Please note that the weight provided by our Log Weight Calculator is an estimate and may vary depending on various conditions. Factors such as moisture content, specific wood density variations within the log, and irregularities in shape or taper can influence the actual weight of a hardwood log. While our calculator uses standard formulas and average density values, it is important to consider that these are general approximations and may not account for all possible variables. For precise weight measurements, we recommend consulting professional resources or conducting physical measurements using calibrated weighing equipment.

1. Estimates Only

The calculations provided by the Log Weight Calculator are intended solely for general informational and estimation purposes. While Bourbon Bigfoot strives to use industry-standard formulas and average density values, the results generated are approximations and do not represent guaranteed or certified weights.

2. Variable Factors

You acknowledge that the actual weight of a hardwood log is subject to significant variation based on numerous biological and environmental factors. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Moisture Content: Variations in sapwood vs. heartwood and the duration since the tree was felled.
  • Specific Wood Density: Natural variations in density within the same species or even within a single log.
  • Physical Irregularities: Irregularities in shape, bark thickness, knots, and natural taper that deviate from a perfect cylinder or standard geometric model.
  • Environmental Conditions: Storage conditions and local climate.

Log Scale Calculator

Volume estimates produced by the Log Scale Calculator (including, for example, Doyle, Scribner, International 1/4″, and similar log rules) are estimates only and are intended as general approximations of potentially usable lumber yield. Actual yield may vary significantly based on factors including (without limitation) log taper, rot or internal defects, sweep/crook, knots, operator choices, and saw kerf, as well as milling method and equipment.

Board Foot Calculator

Board foot calculations produced by the Board Foot Calculator are based on the nominal and/or actual dimensions entered or selected by the user. Actual volume and usable yield may vary due to surfacing and finishing practices (including S2S, S4S, planing, and jointing), shrinkage and movement during drying and acclimation, and natural defects or variability in the wood (including checks, splits, warp, knots, and grain variation).

General Note: Estimation Tools

All tools are provided for estimation purposes only and should not be relied upon as precise measurements for safety-critical, legal, or commercial purposes. For commercial transactions or situations where accuracy is important, Bourbon Bigfoot recommends professional scaling and/or measurement using appropriate methods and calibrated equipment.

Limitation of Liability

Bourbon Bigfoot provides these tools on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Company, its officers, employees, and agents shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, or injury—including but not limited to equipment failure, transportation accidents, or structural damage—resulting from reliance on estimates provided by these calculators. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that any equipment used to lift, transport, or process logs (such as trailers, cranes, or sawmills) is rated for the actual load.

Professional Verification Recommended

For applications where measurement precision is critical for safety, legal compliance, or commercial transactions, we strongly recommend:

  • Consulting with professional forestry, scaling, or engineering resources.
  • Conducting physical measurements using calibrated weighing or measuring equipment.
  • Allowing for a significant margin of error when calculating load capacities or yield expectations based on these estimates.
